Digital Image Processing

It takes a lot more than access to a digital camera, a few lights, and a backdrop to produce professional, high quality images of your products that are to be marketed throughout complex supply chains. First, the images must be captured professionally with the correct lighting environment. Secondly, the captured images must be professionally processed using advanced techniques and image manipulation software. This will ensure that the final processed images meet the standards acceptable to the print industry, the requirements for your internal marketing department and the commonly followed industry standards.

A key component in Solenium’s Image Procurement System is image processing. The image postproduction process includes color correction, background and shadow removal, image resizing, image formatting and image delivery.

The following are the steps in Solenium’s Image Processing workflow;

  • Step 1: Images are reviewed by expert imaging technicians for tone, clarity, and overall quality.

  • Step 2: If the image meets acceptable ‘processing’ standards the image goes through a standard processing workflow to remove shadows, adjust the levels, create a white background and make any necessary color corrections.

  • Step 3: The processed images are posted on Solenium’s Image Extranet for the customer’s review. The customer simply logs onto the Image Extranet using a web browser to access images available for review. Image to be reviewed can be sorted by product category or by date processed. The customer will approve or reject each image.

  • Step 4: Any rejected images will be reassessed by an imaging technician and placed back in the 'image processing workflow’ for further postproduction work.

  • Steps 5: Once the image has been approved by the customer it enters the formatting stage where the image is resized, renamed and processed for color mode (CMYK, RGB etc.) and image format (Tiff, JPEG etc.).

  • Step 6: The formatted images will be delivered to the customer by FTP, CD ROM or DVD.
